Overview of Disney Dream
Is the Disney Dream an old ship?
First launched in 2011, the Disney Dream is part of Disney Cruise Line's "Dream Class." Despite being over a decade old, the ship remains modern and inviting, thanks to a 2020 refurbishment that updated its décor, tech features, and dining areas. At 130,000 tons and a capacity of up to 4,000 passengers, the Disney Dream offers plenty of space to explore.
Currently, the ship alternates between Caribbean and European itineraries, with popular stops like the Bahamas, Castaway Cay (Disney’s private island), and Mediterranean ports offering a rich mix of cultural and relaxing experiences.
What sets the Disney Dream apart? Its unique combination of Disney-themed entertainment, exceptional service, and focus on making travel easy (and magical) for families.

What We Loved About the Disney Dream
1. Family-Friendly Fun
The ship has been thoughtfully designed for families. From split bathrooms in the cabins to separate kids' and adults-only spaces, Disney ensures smooth sailing for all age groups.
Cabins: Whether you’re traveling as a family of four or a larger group, cabins are spacious and equipped with smart features like blackout curtains and storage options. Plus, some rooms even have kid-friendly pull-down bunks with magical Disney-themed starry ceilings.
Kids’ Clubs: The Oceaneer Club lets younger travelers explore immersive setups like Andy’s Room (inspired by Toy Story). Meanwhile, Vibe and Edge give teens their own chic spaces to hang out.

2. Broadway-Caliber Shows
Disney Dream’s entertainment offerings are unparalleled. Shows like Disney's Believe, Beauty and the Beast, and The Golden Mickeys light up the evenings with captivating performances on par with Broadway.
A personal favorite? Beauty and the Beast. The costumes, puppetry, and high-tech stagecraft create an emotional and visually stunning hour-and-a-half experience. Be sure to grab your seat early for the best view, as these shows are popular!
3. The Palo Brunch
Looking to indulge? The adults-only Palo restaurant offers a spectacular brunch that’s worth every penny. From exquisite goat cheese flatbreads to delectable chocolate hazelnut desserts, the menu promises a gastronomic treat. Insider tip? Skip breakfast and arrive on an empty stomach to savor every bite.

4. Outstanding Hospitality
From waitstaff who remember your drink preferences to room attendants leaving creative towel animals each day, the customer service onboard the Disney Dream is genuinely magical. Crew members often go out of their way to make children feel special while ensuring adults have a seamless experience as well.
What I Didn't Love About Disney Dream
Crowds and Queues
Disney does not get everything magically right, unfortunately. One way its ships resemble its parks is in the crowds and wait times for nearly everything. I was dismayed at how much time we spent on this cruise waiting around. Sometimes, it was waiting in the always-long lines for a meet-and-greet and photo opp with characters or to drop off or pick up kids at the Oceaneer Club.
I waited 40 minutes on a sea-day afternoon to ride the AquaDuck, and there was no entertainment in that line, as there might be at a Disney park water attraction. Any show we wanted to see involved arriving early to get seats, occasionally waiting in line to enter the theater. Show up late to one of the Pirate Night shows or any of the events in the atrium lobby, and you will have terrible sightlines and be unable to see much of the show.
Pool Deck
The ship also felt small for the number of people it carried, possibly because of bad design and passenger flow. Unless you go very early or late, the pool deck and its two pools are crowded. Even the dining rooms felt like tables were pushed extremely close together, and it was so loud that I often had to raise my voice or lean across the table to converse with my tablemates. Walking through crowded areas was also tricky since kids would veer unpredictably while ambling slowly.
So it was hard to get by; both parents and kids would block stairwells or corridors. The crowding did make the adult areas feel like a respite. Still, the Quiet Cove sun deck and pool area fill up quickly as well, making it necessary to plan carefully or arrive early to claim a spot. Ultimately, while Disney Dream offers a lot in terms of entertainment and fun, the persistent overcrowding was a drawback that felt impossible to ignore.
What Could Be Better
1. Crowds and Queues
Crowds: Like Disney's theme parks, the Disney Dream can feel crowded during peak seasons. The pool deck, show theaters, and character meet-and-greet lines often see the heaviest foot traffic.
Pro tip: Opt for early morning or late-night activities to steer clear of the busiest times.
2. Nightlife District
While the ship offers options like Pink Champagne Bar and Skyline Lounge, the nightlife lacks the lively energy you might find on other cruise lines. Families often focus on daytime fun, leaving some bars sparsely attended.
Dining and Drinks
Restaurants
The Disney Dream’s rotational dining system means guests enjoy different themed dining rooms while keeping the same attentive waitstaff throughout their trip.
- Animator’s Palate brings animation to life during your meal, with interactive shows featuring characters like Crush from Finding Nemo.
- Royal Palace delights diners with decadent French-inspired dishes like escargot and soufflés.
For casual meals, head to Cabanas buffet or grab a slice of pizza at Flo’s Café. Specialty dining options like Palo and Remy provide an upscale culinary experience for adults willing to splurge.
Bars
From the elegant Meridian Bar to the cozy Cove Café by the adult pool, Disney Dream offers plenty of spaces to unwind. Whether you prefer fancy martinis or simple craft beers, there’s something for every taste.

Activities Onboard
Kid-Focused Activities
Children will love the character meet-and-greets, water play areas, and Nemo’s Reef splash zone. The AquaDuck, Disney’s onboard “water coaster,” is a must-try for thrill-seekers young and old.
Adult Retreats
Adults aren’t forgotten on the Disney Dream. The Quiet Cove Pool, Senses Spa, and Satellite Falls offer serene spaces to relax and recharge. Book a couples’ massage at the spa for ultimate luxury.
Family Fun
Enjoy group activities like karaoke, scavenger hunts, and Disney-themed game shows. Pirate Night is another highlight, with deck parties and a fireworks display at sea. Pack your pirate gear to join in!
Itineraries and Pricing on the Disney Dream
The Disney Dream sails to destinations in the Caribbean, Bahamas, and Europe. Pricing varies by season, with three-night cruises from $1,733 for two and longer sailings costing more. To save, consider booking during off-peak months or look for last-minute deals.
The Disney Dream now offers an impressive variety of itineraries, making it easier than ever to plan the perfect vacation. Previously known for its three or four-night Bahamian cruises departing from Port Canaveral — a favorite for combining with a Walt Disney World vacation — the Disney Dream has since shifted to new horizons with the arrival of the Disney Wish.
Today, the Disney Dream sets sail from diverse home ports including Fort Lauderdale, New York, San Juan, Southampton, and Barcelona. These itineraries cater to a wide range of travelers, with options spanning from quick three-night getaways to luxurious thirteen-night adventures. Whether you're exploring the Caribbean, basking in the beauty of the Mediterranean, or seeking unique ports of call, the Disney Dream offers a magical experience for all.

What You Need to Know Before You Go
Required Documents
Planning to sail on the Disney Dream from Port Canaveral? U.S. citizens will need either a passport or a government-issued photo ID along with an original birth certificate. For children, a passport or a birth certificate will suffice. However, for Disney Dream’s summer European sailings, including transatlantic voyages, every traveler—babies included—must have a passport.
If you’re traveling with a child who isn’t your own, you’ll need a signed authorization form from their parents granting you permission to travel with them. Keep in mind that passports (when required) must be valid for at least six months after your trip. Also, ensure the name on your reservation matches your passport or other official identification exactly to avoid issues.
Gratuities
Disney Cruise Line applies a daily gratuity of $14.50 per person (including children and infants) for most cabins, and $15.50 per person for Concierge-level rooms and suites. You can choose to prepay this amount, or it will automatically be added to your onboard account. If you haven’t prepaid, you can adjust the amount—up or down—at Guest Services or provide additional cash tips if desired.
For reference, a family of four on a five-night cruise in a standard cabin would pay $290 in recommended gratuities. This amount is distributed among the hardworking crew, including your dining room servers who entertain your kids at dinner, and your cabin host who ensures your space is spotless each day. Even if service doesn’t meet your expectations, we encourage you to pay the full gratuity and express any concerns through other channels to support the team.
An 18% gratuity is automatically added to spa, bar, beverage, wine, and deck service bills. However, you’re welcome to tip extra if the service exceeds expectations. While room service is complimentary, it’s customary to leave a few dollars as a tip when signing the receipt.
Dining at Palo or Remy? Gratuities for these specialty restaurants are not included in the automatic gratuity, so an additional tip for excellent service is appreciated. Guests in Concierge-level rooms or suites typically tip their Concierge Lounge hosts $8 per person, per day, at the end of the cruise.

Wi-Fi Options on Disney Dream
Disney Dream offers a variety of Wi-Fi packages for purchase, allowing you to stay connected while at sea. During my sailing, three distinct packages were available, with options to pay per 24 hours or for the entire voyage.
- Stay Connected Package: This basic plan provides access to social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. It costs $18 per 24 hours for one device or $16 per day for the full voyage ($80 for a five-night cruise).
- Classic Surf Package: A step up, this plan offers full web access, email, and audio calling. The price is $28 for 24 hours on one device or $24 per day for the voyage ($120 for five nights).
- Premium Surf Package: Designed for more robust usage, this plan includes everything in the Classic Surf package plus streaming capabilities for platforms like YouTube, Snapchat, and video calling. It costs $42 for 24 hours on one device or $34 per day for the entire cruise ($170 for five nights).

Get The full-cruise Wi-Fi Packages
For those needing multiple devices, full-cruise packages allow up to four devices. With a 20% discount applied to each additional device. However, no discounts are available for 24-hour multi-device plans. You can also purchase a full-cruise package mid-voyage, with the cost prorated based on the remaining days.
If you're unsure how many devices to include, note that single-device plans allow you to switch between gadgets. For instance, you can alternate service between your phone and tablet, but simultaneous access on both requires a multi-device plan.
On my Caribbean cruise, I used the Premium Surf package and found it reliable for texting, using the Navigator app, and making Wi-Fi calls. However, browsing websites and uploading photos on my laptop were occasionally slow.
Disney Dream’s Wi-Fi plans cater to a range of needs, ensuring you stay connected whether for work, social media, or entertainment.
Carry-On Alcohol Policy on The Dream Cruise
Passengers aged 21 and over are allow to bring onboard up to two unopened bottles of wine or Champagne (750 milliliters or smaller) or six beers (12 ounces or smaller). This allowance applies both at the start of the cruise and at each port of call. Unlike many other cruise lines, this policy allows guests to bring drinks back from port without confiscation, so take full advantage of this generous perk.
On embarkation day, all beverages must be packed in your carry-on luggage, not in checked bags. Once onboard, you can store your drinks in the mini-fridge in your cabin or request ice from your stateroom host to keep them chilled.
If you'd like to enjoy your own wine or Champagne in one of the dining rooms, a $26 corkage fee will apply per bottle.

Smoking Policy
Smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor areas:
- The portside section of the Meridian Lounge on Deck 12
- The portside aft area near the Currents Bar on Deck 13
- The aft portside of the Deck 4 outdoor promenade, restricted to the hours of 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Is strictly prohibited inside cabins or on cabin balconies. Passengers caught violating this policy will incur a $250 cleaning fee.
Laundry Facilities
The Disney Dream provides 24-hour, self-service laundry facilities conveniently located on Decks 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, and 10. While these laundry rooms aren’t marked on the app’s deck plans, you’ll find them indicated on the deck plans near the stairwells, with hallway signs pointing the way. Typically, they are positioned either forward or aft on most decks.
To use the washers and dryers or purchase detergent and dryer sheets, simply use your Key to the World cruise card. Each laundry room is also equipped with irons and ironing boards for complimentary use—the only spot on the ship where ironing is permitted.
If you prefer to skip laundry duty during your vacation, Disney Dream offers laundry services, including washing, pressing, and dry cleaning, for an additional fee. Just place your items in the provided laundry bag with the form in your cabin, and your cabin attendant will handle the rest, ensuring your clothes are cleaned and returned promptly.
Currency
The currency on Disney Cruise Line ships is the U.S. dollar. While onboard, you won’t need cash or a credit card for most transactions—incidentals, purchases, and services will all be charged to your cabin folio. Your Key to the World card serves as your convenient onboard payment method. The only time you may need cash onboard is if you wish to tip a crew member directly. However, it’s a good idea to carry some cash or a credit card for purchases when you visit ports of call. The exception is Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island, where all purchases at shops and bars can be made using your cruise card; cash and credit cards are not accepted there.
Electrical Outlets
Every cabin aboard the Disney Dream is equipped with 110-volt outlets (standard in the U.S. and Canada) and 220-volt European outlets conveniently located near the desk and one side of the bed. Additionally, a shaver-only outlet can be found on the ceiling in the bathroom, catering to your grooming needs.
Drinking Age
The minimum drinking age on Disney Dream is 21. For round-trip European cruises, where local drinking ages may be lower, parents or guardians can sign a consent form allowing 18- to 20-year-olds to drink onboard, provided they are in the presence of an adult from their traveling party.
Dress Code
Daytime Attire:
Casual wear, such as shorts, T-shirts, and sundresses, is the standard for daytime on Bahamas and Caribbean sailings. Many guests embrace Disney spirit by wearing Mickey ears, Disney-themed clothing, princess dresses, or matching group T-shirts throughout the day.
Evening Attire:
For dinner in the three main dining restaurants, the dress code is “cruise casual,” meaning swimwear and tank tops are not allowed, but formal attire is not required. While dressing up isn’t mandatory, many guests enjoy wearing more elegant outfits in the evening. If dining at Palo or Remy, elevated attire is requested, including for brunch at Palo.
On our five-night cruise, there was one optional dress-up night. Guests dining at the Royal Palace restaurant often change into fancier outfits—or even princess costumes—for added fun.
Special Theme Nights:
Pirate Night brings its own “pirate casual” dress code. Pack your bandanas, eye patches, and pirate-themed outfits, but leave swords and pistols at home.
For Halloween and Very Merrytime Christmas cruises, costumes and festive holiday attire are highly encouraged, making for memorable photos and magical moments.
Whether dressing casually or embracing Disney-themed ensembles, the guidelines are designed to keep you comfortable while adding an extra touch of magic to your cruise experience.

Disney Dream Magic Band
MagicBand+ and DisneyBand+ are now compatible with Disney Cruise Line ships, including the Disney Dream, offering a convenient and magical cruise experience. These wearables allow you to board the ship, unlock your stateroom, make purchases, and even interact with select onboard entertainment.
Note: Older MagicBand models are not supported, so be sure to use the latest versions for full functionality. Enjoy a seamless and connected adventure!
