The sailing stretch throughout the summer months in Alaska.

When choosing your Alaskan Disney Cruise Dates

These are the important things to think about:

Alaska Weather Condition

Check the weather conditions in Alaska before attempting to sail on the Alaska Disney Cruise. The weather can be unpredictable and it’s always best to check the forecast before you set sail. If possible, try to plan your cruise dates around milder weather conditions so that you can better enjoy your time onboard.

Seasonal Considerations

Alaska Disney Cruises are available from May through September each year. It’s important to note that some months may be more crowded than others, depending on the time of year and availability. May has some of the best weather, while September can have cooler temperatures.

Length of Cruise

Most Alaska Disney Cruises are 7-night sailings, but there are also 3-day cruises available as well. Consider how much time you want to spend onboard and plan your cruise accordingly.

Routing Options

Most Alaska Disney cruises follow the same route, but some offer alternate sailings that include port visits to other areas such as Sitka, Juneau, or Skagway. Be sure to research all of your options when it comes to routing so you can make sure to get the most out of your vacation.

You can see on this Juneau, Alaska monthly climate averages that the average rainfall by month is double in September which is in May.

US School Summer Holiday Dates – May or September

Vary depending on the state and school district. For instance, in California, summer holidays usually start in June and end in August; whereas in Texas, summer holidays generally begin in late May and extend through early August. Additionally, some states may have longer or shorter holiday periods than others as well.

Going on a cruise in May or September can be cheaper because the kids are in school. You might get a discount if you go at the beginning of June or the end of September too. If your kids don’t have to be in school, think about going at the start or finish of the Alaskan cruising season.

When booking an Alaskan cruise, which side of the ship should you choose?

You want to look at which way you are sailing. If you are cruising north, it’s best to select a starboard (or right-side) stateroom since the land is on that side. When sailing south from Alaska to Vancouver or Seattle, choose a port (left side) stateroom so you can catch views of the coastline and mountains. Selecting a mid-ship cabin will also offer excellent vistas while sailing on both sides of the ship.

Here’s some more context on each of the destinations listed for the various lengths of cruise:

  • Juneau, Alaska is the state’s capital and the largest town that the ship stops in during the Alaskan cruise. The town has some noteworthy food options (see below for excursions) and was the closest that we got to any glacier.
  • Fairbanks and northern lights are a must-see. for any traveler in Alaska. From the bustle of downtown to the vast wilderness, Fairbanks is home to some of Alaska’s most spectacular sights and experiences. Whether it’s visiting a museum or taking an unforgettable tour, there’s something for everyone in this vibrant city. The Alaska Northern Lights show which takes place from late fall through early spring is one of the most beautiful natural spectacles on Earth. During this time, Fairbanks is one of the best places to take in the awe-inspiring show, where you can view them at their full glory.
  • Skagway, Alaska was the access point for the last gold rush. This old gold rush town is the jumping-off point for excursions into the Yukon. Excursion options include a historic railway line with stunning Vista views, helicopter tours, and tours of the old town.
  • Ketchikan, Alaska is the rainiest place in the world and features an old town built on stilts above a creek, salmon runs, Native American totem polls, and a lumberjack show. This port is the closest to Vancouver in Alaska and all Disney Alaskan Cruises stop here.
  • Dawes Glacier, Alaska is not a port but is a location that the boat pulls into for one day of all Alaska sailings. The boat enters the cove near the glacier and then rotates slowly so that all sides of the boat get an angle of the glacier. There is an option for an excursion here to go out on a smaller boat that goes closer to the glacier.
  • Sitka, Alaska was not a port that we visited during our seven-night Disney Cruise sailing to Alaska but we heard the highlights revolve around the Russian history of the city (this was the capital of the territory when Alaska belonged to Russia) and the outdoor excursions which are similar to the excursions offered in the other ports.

Verandah Room for your Alaskan Cruise

In our article “Best Disney Cruises,” we provide a detailed overview of the stateroom options available on all Disney Cruise Line ships. However, it is especially important to choose your room carefully when sailing on a Disney Cruise to Alaska.

On a cruise, you don’t need to spend too much money on a room if you won’t be in it a lot. But for an Alaskan cruise, this might not be the best idea as the trip is longer and it’s colder outside.

Our group was made up of people from 2 years old to 40+. Some people didn’t want to explore all the time. We had a Verandah room on our Alaskan Disney Cruise. This meant we could look at the view without having to put on extra warm clothes and go outside.

There are many activities and lounging areas available on the ship. However, the Verandah was the highlight of our sea days. Even when entering a port, it was enjoyable to observe the approach from our own balcony.

What is Disney Wonder Entertainment and what shows are Available On Alaskan Cruise?

On the Alaska cruise, you can enjoy Broadway-quality shows at the Walt Disney Theatre. The shows are different depending on the length of the sailing. If there isn’t a Disney show scheduled, you’ll be entertained by a variety show instead.

The shows on Disney Wonder are:

  • Frozen, A Musical Spectacular” is a one-hour-long show that presents a complete version of the story of Frozen, featuring impressive musical performances and amusing acting by Olaf. The quality of the production is outstanding, and the musicians deliver remarkable performances.
  • Golden Mickeys” is a show that combines musical performances featuring songs from classic and contemporary Disney films with a storyline about a stage manager who is unexpectedly thrust into the role of hosting the show at the last minute. Through the course of the show, the host learns that anything is possible.
  • “Disney Dreams – An Enchanted Classic” is a medley of classic Disney musical numbers. It tells the story of a young girl who is visited in her dreams by characters from various Disney movies when she starts losing her faith in magic. Along with Peter Pan and Tinker Bell, these characters help her regain her belief.

Shows are typically shown twice per night to accommodate both early and late dinner seatings. If you have a late dinner seating, you will attend the earlier show, and if you have an early dinner seating, you will attend the later show.

There are also two deck shows that occur during the cruise:

  • “Mickey’s Sail-A-Wave” party, featuring beloved Disney characters, is a deck send-off party that happens as the ship departs from Vancouver. It takes place in the early afternoon.
  • Our deck party, “Freeze the Night Away,” is themed after Frozen and includes popular songs and characters from the movie. At the end of the show, it snows. Please note that the deck party takes place after both dinner seatings and the temperature can be quite cold, so make sure to dress appropriately.

Booking an outside payment system might save you some money, but the show was still fun. It was like a contest between the US and Canada with professional lumberjacks doing amazing stunts! Everyone in the audience could join in too. Our friends’ kids had lots of fun participating. It’s an awesome experience for the whole family.

Did you know that in the summers of 1987 and 1988 Disneyland had a special event called the “State Fair”? There was a Log Rolling and Lumberjack Show at this event, located near the Rivers of America area.

When you get back on the ship there’s always a Cast Member with hot chocolate and cookies ready to greet you.

On two of the three days in port, we chose to eat lunch on the ship. We liked eating at Triton’s restaurant and liked that it was a sit-down meal. After lunch, we went back into town to explore some more. Some people stayed on the ship.

How Does Internet WI-FI Access Work On Disney Cruise Line Alaska Trip

There is WiFi available on the Disney Wonder, it is not suitable for downloading large files. It is recommended to save any important digital materials beforehand, such as books for your Kindle or podcasts for the gym. The WiFi is expensive and has limited data, so it is best to use it for messaging and browsing only. Additionally, some apps may not function properly while connected to the WiFi.

We noticed that iMessages came through even when we did not have our WiFi package turned on. You can also send messages to other people in your group using the Disney Cruise Line app.

When we stopped at each port,, it was easy for us to get on our normal Verizon phone plan. I even used my phone as a hotspot for my laptop so I could send emails. Before you go to Vancouver, check with your phone provider about using their service there.

Disney Cruise Line App How to Use

We found it challenging to use the Disney Cruise Line app due to its unintuitive interface. However, once I learned how to find activities, the app worked effectively. view reviews here

To find interesting activities onboard, go to the “Explore” section of the app and select the day you want to view. You can also filter by activity type such as movies. Once you have selected the activities, the app will send you push notifications. The “Add Plans” button only suggests paid activities and doesn’t work as expected. For more details on everything happening onboard, check out the “Explore” section.

Disney Wonder Pools Alaska

9 is a lively and popular deck on the ship. It is home to all 3 pools: Mickey’s Pool designed for kids with a slide, Goofy’s Pool for families, and Quiet Cove for adults. The Cove Cafe, which serves gourmet coffee at an additional cost, can also be found at Quiet Cove.

There is a complimentary buffet dining area called Blanket Beach Buffet. On shore days, you can enjoy delicious food options such as pork ribs, beef ribs, crab cakes, crab legs, and crawfish!

Sometimes it was cold when I went to the pool area. I could hear a song called “La Bamba”. We used the pool every day. Before our show, I would go to the adult pool area and hot tub. It was calmer there and nice to talk with other guests about their trip.

How Does Dining Work on Disney Wonder Cruise

On the Disney Wonder, there are three restaurants for dinner. You will go to a different one each night. The same waiter and assistant waiter will be there waiting for you every night.

The wait staff will remember you during the trip. They will learn what you like and don’t like. For example, one person in our group wanted no ice in their water. After just one night, they started bringing it without being asked. The food on the ship changes each night and is usually related to the restaurant’s theme.

Our waiters said we could order whatever we wanted from the menu. I usually had soup and an appetizer first, then a main course. Sometimes try to order extra food so that everyone could try it.

We really enjoyed the Beef Wellington, Banoffee pie (a chocolate, banana, and whipped cream dessert), and the caramel ice cream. We liked it so much that we ordered it every night after that!

My grandmother asked for something that was not on the menu. She wanted a blue cheese wedge salad. But the server brought it to her in 5 minutes! My aunt wanted asparagus and they also got it for her. We were very surprised that they could do this. So remember, you can always ask for what you want even if it is not on the menu!

How many restaurants does Disney Wonder have?

The three restaurants on the Disney Wonder are Animator’s Palate, Tiana’s Place, and Triton’s. You will dine in each Disney Wonder restaurant at least once during your cruise – unless you are sailing on one of those very rare two-night Disney cruises. For those cruises, you will only have one evening dining time, so all of your meals will be served in the same restaurant.

Animator’s Palate is a whimsical and interactive experience with an animated show featuring some of Disney’s most beloved characters. Tiana’s Place celebrates the legacy of The Princess and the Frog movie with classic New Orleans-style cuisine. Finally, Triton’s is an upscale restaurant inspired by the Little Mermaid movie with an emphasis on seafood.

Palo is a special restaurant that serves high-quality food for dinner and brunch.

Is a fancy restaurant aboard the Disney Cruise ship called Palo, which is only for adults and costs extra money. We decided to try both the brunch and dinner there. It’s important to make a reservation for Palo as soon as it becomes available because it fills up quickly. Although I will write a more detailed review later, I will say that we liked the wide selection of food that came with the brunch better.

On the ship, you can get breakfast and lunch.

there are multiple food options available throughout the day. You can have breakfast and lunch at the Cabanas restaurant through a buffet. For a seated breakfast or lunch, you can visit Triton’s, the central sit-down restaurant.

We began our cruise by having breakfast at Cabanas. However, we eventually switched to having breakfast at Triton’s upon discovering that our evening waiter often served there. We realized that we could enjoy the same great table service as we did during dinner. Additionally, the quality of breakfast food was better at Triton’s. I ordered similar omelets at both restaurants, but the omelet from Triton’s was much better.

Quick-service restaurants on Board

On the upper deck of the cruise, you can find fast food restaurants that offer sandwiches, hamburgers, chicken tenders (which are really good!), pizza, Asian-style bowls, as well as soft serve ice cream. Don’t miss out on getting soft serve during the cruise, as there is never a bad time for it. Even if it’s cold outside, Disney Cruise Line soft-serve ice cream is always worth trying!

Additional Charge Food

Some food locations on the ship require an additional charge, such as concession stands outside the theaters where you can buy popcorn, soda, and candy. There are also lounges where you can purchase alcoholic drinks at an extra bar/coffee place on the top deck called Cove Bar which is exclusively for adults and resembles a cozy Starbucks. Additionally, if you choose to dine at one of the regular dinner restaurants, you will have the option to purchase alcohol for an additional fee.

On Your First Day Onboard Alaska Disney Cruise

When you board the Disney Wonder, you can have lunch in one of the restaurants. We had lunch at Tiana’s Place. We could also have gone to Cabanas for a quick meal or eaten from the buffet.

from what was mentioned earlier, the onboard 24/7 room service is also included. This means that you won’t have to worry about going hungry. Instead, focus on what you want to avoid eating rather than what you will be able to eat.

the pool deck of Deck 9, there is a water and soda station available. Throughout the trip, we used our own reusable water bottles and regularly refilled them at this station. Additionally, there are a couple of fill stations for water bottles located near the pool and gym on the upper deck.

Disney Cruise Line Vancouver Canada Check-In Process

The check-in process for Disney Cruise Line in Vancouver, Canada is easy and straightforward. All guests will need to present valid photo identification, such as a passport or other government-issued ID when boarding the cruise ship. Guests may also be asked to provide a copy of their birth certificate and/or other travel documents prior to embarking on their voyage.

Once all guests have presented their ID, they will then proceed to the check-in counter and will be asked to provide information such as full name, date of birth, address, phone number, and email address. Guests may also be required to pay a cruise deposit or provide a credit card for onboard purchases. After all the necessary information has been provided and finalized, guests will receive their boarding passes, which they must present in order to board the ship.

Guests are encouraged to arrive at the port of Vancouver at least two hours before departure in order to check in, go through security, and complete all necessary steps prior to boarding the cruise ship.

We boarded the Disney Wonder in Canada, and we had to go through various checks including US customs and ensuring the COVID Arrive CAN procedures. However, as of early 2023, Canada has dropped their COVID testing requirements and cruise line passengers departing from Canada no longer need to take a pre-boarding test. You can verify these requirements on the Disney Cruise Line website, but it’s unlikely that COVID testing will return for Disney Cruise Line sailings departing from Canada.

Planning your first Disney Alaskan Cruise can be an exciting and memorable experience. To ensure you make the most of your trip, here are ten tips that previous cruisers have found valuable:

1. Layered Clothing: Alaska’s weather can be unpredictable, so pack layers to adjust to varying temperatures throughout the day. Bring a mix of lightweight and warmer garments, including a waterproof jacket, hats, and gloves.

2. Binoculars and Camera: Don’t forget to bring binoculars to enhance your wildlife spotting opportunities. Also, bring a good camera or smartphone to capture the breathtaking scenery and magical moments.

3. Extend Your Stay: Consider arriving a day or two before your cruise departure or staying a few extra days after the cruise to explore the embarkation and disembarkation cities, such as Vancouver or Seattle, which offer their own attractions.

4. Book Excursions in Advance: Popular shore excursions can fill up quickly, so make sure to book your preferred activities ahead of time to secure your spot. Check Disney Cruise Line’s website or contact their customer service for information on available excursions.

5. Port Adventures vs. Independent Exploration: Research and consider both Disney’s Port Adventures and independent options for each port of call. While Port Adventures offer convenience and peace of mind, independent exploration can allow for more flexibility and potentially lower costs.
